Welcome to Tharwa Valley Forge
Steel, fire, leather and your own two hands.
From your very first strike on the anvil, or your first cut of leather, something shifts. You're not just making an object - you're making something that could outlast you. Our team at Tharwa Valley Forge has been guiding complete beginners and seasoned makers through bladesmithing, blacksmithing, leatherwork and welding since 2003. We know how to get the best out of you, and we make it genuinely enjoyable along the way.

Course dates don't suit? Is the course you want booked out? Get a group of friends together and book a course when it suits you. Not only can do any of the courses we offer, you can customise them to learn things that you don't see on our website. Custom courses usually cost the same as our scheduled courses and can be run with as little as two participants. Dates fill fast, so it's better to talk to us now rather than miss out.
As one of the largest production knife makers in Australia, we've worked with a huge range of clients and made a diverse range of wonderful cutlery. Oyster shuckers, machetes, steak knives, combat knives, cleavers, cheese knives, carving swords for roast meat, champagne openers, kitchen knives... you get the idea. We provide our clients with the expertise to develop and manufacture a product that meets both their requirements and their budget.
At least a quarter of the people who come through our doors arrive on a Gift Certificate - and the stories behind them are wonderful. A daughter surprising her dad. A partner rewarding someone who's always wanted to try something like this. A manager thanking a team that earned it. A Tharwa Valley Forge Gift Certificate isn't just a present. It's an experience they'll talk about for years, and a finished piece they'll keep for a lifetime.
Our bladesmiths work at the forge every day, and what they create is genuinely special. Each knife and piece of cutlery is hand-forged from scratch, built to perform and made to last a lifetime - possibly longer. A small selection of their work is available in our online shop, with new pieces added regularly. If you're in Canberra, we'd love you to come in, have a look around and find something you'll treasure. There's nothing quite like choosing a handmade knife in person.
