Our Workshops
Tharwa Valley Forge features 5 different workshops. These are split across two campuses, our original TVF site and a few hundred meters down the road at Cuppacumbalong. We’ve got a wide range of tools and machines which allows for a wide variety of courses to be taught, across a variety of levels and disciplines.
Our large workshop capacity also allows our staff to effectively meet production cutlery orders, without needing to compromise on teaching our courses. Click on the links below to learn more about specific workshops you can find at TVF.

Formerly a potter’s shed, the leathershed/workshop is the home for our wide variety of leatherworking courses. The one stop shop for all things leather at TVF, it supports making all sorts of leather items across a variety of skill levels as both courses, and garnishes to final products.
The Cuppa forge is our largest single workshop at TVF, and covers all the functions of the 3 Tharwa workshops (forging, grinding, heavy machinery).
It's also home to some neat capabilities, like multiple welding bays and our new high-tech laser cutter.
Attached to the grinding room, the Tharwa machine room is where some of the larger machines at the Tharwa site live. Used primarily by staff, it features several mills, metal lathes, and a CNC router among other tools.
As the name might imply, the Tharwa grinding room is home to several grinding machines, but that’s not just all it's used for. With a multitude of workbenches and woodworking tools, it’s also where students can find themselves making knife handles or making the finishing touches on a blade.
It's also attached to our classroom, where students will learn the theory of knifemaking before beginning with their blacksmiting work.
One of the original workshops at TVF, Tharwa Forge is the core of the TVF campus and is where many courses and products start life. Featuring 2 gas forges (allowing for 2 people to use them at once), a power hammer, heat treating and tampering ovens, along with a multitude of other tools and machines.
